Muffo

The history of the Sergio Mottura winery is rooted in its enlightened founder and in the strong winemaking tradition of the hills of Civitella d’Agliano in the province of Viterbo, on the border with the Umbrian plain bathed by the Tiber. There are historical traces of the strong wine-growing vocation of these places since the 13th century, and even today the landscape retains those wild and uncontaminated characteristics that have characterized it over the centuries. Here in 1933 the Mottura family, originally from Piedmont, purchased the estate, which it still maintains today, of 130 hectares with the aim of preserving its great natural heritage.

The protagonist of this great family story is certainly Sergio Mottura, who at a very young age in the 1960s moved the life of the estate from the medieval sharecropping system to direct management following the agrarian reform, moving there and starting a remarkable work of valorisation and innovation. The passionate study conducted on native vines, especially Grechetto, the respect for traditions and the introduction of sustainable farming techniques, make it a prominent element of not only Italian oenology; Gambero Rosso awards Sergio Mottura with the title of Winemaker of the Year 2013.

Orvieto of the Sergio Mottura winery locates its vineyards in the municipality of Civitella d’Agliano, in the province of Viterbo. It is produced with Grechetto grapes. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, the refinement took place in oak barrels for 12 months plus a further 6 months in the bottle.

Muffo from the Sergio Mottura winery has a straw yellow color with amber nuances, on the nose the aromas are of white berry fruit aromas with floral notes and honey. On the palate it is fresh and sweet.
