Costa Vecchia Extra Dry

The Pietra Pinta company is located in Cori, in Lazio, geographically 55 kilometers south of Rome and 25 from the provincial capital Latina. The town is located on the western side of the Lepini mountains, which surround it to the north-east, forming a splendid backdrop with stony rocks and centuries-old olive trees. The name of the company derives from the locality of the same name on the slopes of the Coresi hills where legend has it that following a bloody battle between the followers of Marius and Silla (80 BC) a large stone was dyed purple in memory of the event. The vineyards are located in the Cori countryside, on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains, under the influence of the sea currents that come from the Lazio coast. This guarantees hot and dry summers followed by cool and breezy autumns, with strong temperature variations between day and night during the ripening period of the grapes. The soils, of volcanic origin, are medium-textured clay, with a balanced supply of nutrients, which allow the development of quality viticulture. Nero Buono, an ancient vineyard typical of the territory of the municipality of Cori, which has always been cultivated in our vineyards, has in recent years been the subject of studies which have enhanced its organoleptic characteristics, making it rediscovered by the public as a great treasure which has remained in the obscurity, but which, like all small productions, always has something new to show us. Thus this unique vine of ours has been a source of inspiration for us for the recovery and relaunch of local production, as well as an example of the quality that our territory is able to offer. Our vineyards are cultivated in counter-espalier with simple Guyot pruning. The newly designed vineyard has 4500 vines per hectare with a production of 1.5 kg of grapes per plant. The management involves first thinning of the shoots and then of the bunches, while treatments and fertilizations follow the philosophy of low environmental impact agriculture. The harvest takes place when the grapes have fully ripened, which on average occurs in the first ten days of October.

Costa Vecchia Extra Dry from the Petra Pinta winery is made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Falanghina grapes, the winemaking takes place with a nocturnal harvest; the must obtained is cold statically decanted. After soft pressing, the musts are fermented at a controlled temperature and then statically cold decanted. After resting for 5 months on the fine lees, the masses are combined and filtered.

Costa Vecchia Extra Dry from the Petra Pinta winery is a quality sparkling wine with a straw yellow color with greenish nuances, the nose is intense and fruity, with fresh hints of white flowers, apple and banana, the taste is fresh and soft.
