Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido is one of the most famous and appreciated Italian red wines. Its legendary history and its special organoleptic notes have made it famous throughout the world. A Tuscan red with a Bordeaux blend that ages 24 months in barrique and takes on a full and elegant character. Sassicaia expresses the best essence of the fine Supertuscan wines.
The Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC Tenuta San Guido wine is produced only in a small area of Tuscany that is home to the prized vineyards from which its grapes are born, all owned by Tenuta San Guido. The experiment that gave birth to one of the most famous reds in the world dates back to the 1920s: the idea was to produce a Bordeaux in Maremma, something bordering on the absurd at the time, and it was the work of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta. Until the 1960s, Sassicaia remained an exclusive of the Tenuta. It was in 1968 that the first bottle of this extraordinary Bolgheri arrived on the market, receiving a welcome worthy of a Bordeaux Premier Cru.
The terroir that gives the wine its special organoleptic qualities influenced the choice of its name Sassicaia, which has become famous throughout the world: the high stony content that distinguishes the 75 hectares of vineyards of Tenuta San Guido make the territory particularly suited to the production of such a fine wine. It is obtained with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc and ages for 24 months in French oak barriques. Sassicaia takes on an intense ruby red color that tends towards garnet with aging; it releases a rich bouquet of fruity aromas and settles on the palate with harmony, elegance and notable structure.
Tenuta San Guido’s Sassicaia 2013 is released for sale after aging for 24 months in French oak barrels (one-third new), bottling, and subsequent aging in glass. The most authoritative voices in wine are convinced of the merit of the 2013 vintage: among the reviews of Sassicaia 2013, we find that of Wine Spectator, which considers it the best wine in the world. Like every vintage of Bolgheri Sassicaia, the 2013 is also a precious resource for the best occasions, worthy of exclusive contexts and pairings.
