The history of the Talisker distillery begins as far back as 1830, founded by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands in a landscape of verdant coasts and jagged rocky bays full of charm, bathed by the North Sea. Here we produce one of the single malts most appreciated by connoisseurs that the writer Louis Stevenson defined as “the best drink in the world”. The manufacturing process is very accurate, respectful of tradition, with a double distillation system. But the real success of this distillate is the raw material, that is the malt and spring water already rich in peat that flows from the undergrounds of “Cnoc-nan-speirag”, hawk hill in Gaelic. Hence the intense and peaty flavor that makes it a unique single malt and for “cultured” palates.

With a golden straw color, greenish highlights and a soft nose that gives few hints to the furious spirit that will soon follow on the palate. The top notes are sweet and maritime, an initial hint of porridge oats it quickly gives way to purer, maritime aromas that suggest salty seaweed, crystalline salt and iodine, on a base of mountain smoke. A drop of water softens it, increasing its maritime character. On the palate it emerges a soft and oily texture and a great taste they gently take control; almost fragrant at first, but salty and slightly sweet all the while, wonderfully peaty and smoked from specially selected barrels, this fiery sea monster has a full peppery surprise to be savored in detail. The water rounds it off, adding a pinch of pepper on the tongue, while the profile remains similar overall. Final: Long, warm and persistent, smoky finish, with persistent malt in the aftertaste. Even better with a drop
of water.
