Brunnenhof’s Pinot Nero Riserva Mazzon is a wine with a strong identity: a ruby red whose nose offers intense scents of fruit such as plum and cherry, with soft tannins and a tasty aroma. It is a cru grown on the hills of Mazzon for more than 100 years, and you can feel it in the body.
Brunnenhof is a family-run estate on the hills of Mazzon in Alto Adige, in that winegrowing area which is the cradle of Pinot Noir — known locally as Blauburgunder. Here, since 1999, Kurt and Johanna Rottensteiner have turned a 200-year-old estate into a winery that makes excellent bottles, respecting its traditions and bringing out its fruit. The aim is to make fine wines that show their terroir, helped by a favourable climate and rich soil, through ecological farming in complete harmony with the landscape they speak of, sip after sip.
Pinot Nero Riserva Mazzon enjoys clay-and-sand soil, the afternoon sun and the Ora del Garda wind: conditions that shape its considerable personality. The grapes are picked and selected with care, then fermented in wooden vats in contact with the lees for at least 15 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine rests for a year in 500-litre oak casks. It then ages a further year in bottle in the cellar, after which it is ready to be sold.
