Grappa di Moscato Levi

The Levi house-distillery is today a living and productive museum of Grappa, a real island of time, where Romano Levi’s Genius Loci hovers everywhere in the art, in the ways and times of work, in the objects simple and essential, in perfumes and serenity. The distillery was built by Serafino Levi and was equipped, then as now, with a direct-fired still with submerged marc, one of the few still in operation in Italy. The distillery was the undivided inheritance of the Levi brothers. Lidia, on the first floor of the house where she had isolated herself leading an almost monastic life, selected and produced the very rare bottles of herbal grappa. She was the older sister, an exceptional woman, protective, strict and guarded. But it is to Romano that we owe the great fame gained by his bottles of grappa, for the labels written by hand and then enriched with poetic phrases or naive drawings, those small masterpieces that today are defined as “WILD ART”. The pomace of the great wines of Piedmont DOC – DOCG come from the Langhe, places where the vine has found one of its highest expressions; the resulting Grappa finds an extraordinary and exciting balance, deriving from the tanning in underground pits.

Levi Moscato grappa is a grappa that expresses the territoriality of Piedmont. Intense and pleasant aroma typical of Muscat grappa and on the palate it is fruity, sweet without excess and with a rich body. The origin of the pomace is the area of Neive, Trezzo and Treiso, all belonging to the DOCG area. The pomace is fermented according to an ancient family recipe and immediately distilled to extract the noblest esters that make Levi Muscat grappa very pleasant. The distillation takes place in a direct flame discontinuous still with submerged marc. The maturation of the brandy takes place in barriques of about 225 liters for at least 6 months with controlled temperature and humidity.

Moscato Levi grappa has a transparent straw yellow color with fruity notes typical of Moscato. On the palate it is fruity, moderately sweet and full-bodied.
