Baffonero owes its name to the homonymous Merlot grape vineyard from which it comes, which was the first to be planted in Rocca di Frassinello. The color is a ruby red, on the nose stand out aromas of berries, blackberry, blueberry, with notes of vanilla to finish. In the mouth the olfactory sensations are confirmed which then evolve towards hints of tobacco, chocolate and coffee, enhancing their complexity.
The Rocca di Frassinello winery was born from an ambitious project with a simple idea: to invest in a new territory in the center of the Maremma, with lands similar to those of the most famous wine areas of Tuscany, but with different temperatures. Thus, in the enchanting scenery of the Maremma, Rocca di Frassinello is dedicated to the creation of blends of native and international vines. It is one of the rare cases of an Italian-French joint venture in the production of wine. On the one hand Paolo Panerai founder of Castellare di Castellina, on the other the Baron Eric de Rothschild Lafite, one of the most famous names in the world of French wines. An ambitious project crowned by great labels. One of the greatest architects in the world designed the new cellar: Renzo Piano.
The Baffonero vineyard is at the foot of the cellar designed by Renzo Piano in Gavorrano in the province of Grosseto, and enjoys a favorable exposure to say the least and a clayey soil rich in skeleton. The harvest is by hand in the first half of September and the vinification takes place in concrete tanks. The wine then ages in new French oak barriques for 14 months followed by another 12 months of aging in bottle. A wine of great aromatic breadth, full-bodied and endowed with a certain freshness that makes it particularly pleasant.
