Lagavulin 12 yo special release 2021 is a proud, rampant whiskey with marked elegance. Intense, salty and sweet at the same time with the scent of wood smoke that envelops everything with delight.
Lagavulin is a prestigious historical brand of Scotch whisky whose birth dates back to 1817 when the distillery was founded on the island of Islay, on the west coast of Scotland, where the most peaty whiskys come from. After several vicissitudes and changes in ownership, it still holds true to its glorious origins, known for always producing small quantities of high quality.
Straw-yellow gold with a light, dry, wonderfully aromatic nose; clean, fresh and maritime, with top notes of sea breeze and Himalayan salt, supported by a fragrant dried Lapsang Souchong tea, mineral salts and a light medicinal note. Under this pleasant impact and imposing hides drier notes of cocoa powder and dried seaweed, with a splash of lemon zest. A salty sweetness impregnated with the wood smoke of a distant bonfire on the shore of the winter sea closes. On the palate the consistency is smooth and oily; the taste is sweet at first, then soon grows with an intense lemon acidity, with a splash of sea salt and a persistent charcoal that speaks with every sip. The overall salty-sweet taste is rounded, softened and sweetened by a drop of water. with a long finish, with large waves of smoke, and roaring with the heat of the chili. Even better with a drop of water. The smoke persists wonderfully in the aftertaste.
