Stefano Amerighi's Syrah 2018 is a singular wine, holding in one glass a passion for winegrowing and a search for old traditions. The colour has an uncommon ruby tone, the palate is warm and structured, while aromas of blackberry and cherry together with cardamom, fern, tomato concentrate and juniper frame its personality beyond any doubt.
Stefano Amerighi’s cellar is a byword for sustainability and excellence, which repay the work he has put into reviving old craft techniques, founded on sound biodynamic principles. Coming from a long line of growers, Stefano wanted to make wine as his forebears did, with the grapes trodden by foot and with pruning and all the work in the fields following the phases of the moon. The wine that stands for the cellar is Syrah, and the area where the vineyards lie was chosen carefully for the singular character of the terroir near Cortona, in the Poggiobello di Farneta district. Out of all this passion, and this love of wine and what it stands for, comes Stefano Amerighi’s Syrah — “a true mirror of my grapes”, as he likes to put it.
The Syrah 2018 is a still biodynamic red; since 2010 it has been aged 50% in concrete tanks and 50% in oak casks of various sizes for 20 months, then in the bottle for a further year. Warm and structured at 13.5% alcohol, it is a wine of earthy aromas and fruity notes, to be savoured with pleasure.
