Charles Tanqueray founded his distillery in 1830 with the aim of making a gin of unmistakable flavour and very high quality. He clearly succeeded, as the reach and popularity of his London Dry Gin in the best cocktail bars in the world still show; it is made today at the Cameronbridge plant in Scotland by the drinks group Diageo, which owns the brand.
