Rum Angostura 1919

The history of Angostura is full of charm and dates back to 1824 when the doctor Johan Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, surgeon in the liberation army under the command of General Simòn Bolivar, invented a remedy for the troops' digestive problems based on herbs and spices of the place. The recipe that gave life to what became the worldwide famous aromatic bitters was created right in the city of Angostura located on the banks of the Orinocco river. The success of the drink was such that Siegert founded a company to produce it which after his death was moved to Trinidad, and still carried on by his family. The starting distillate of the bitter, in addition to the 12 ingredients, was precisely the rum, hence the fame of Angostura also in the production of rums using a column still under the wise direction of the Master Distiller John Georges and part of the Authentic Caribbean Rum , the association for the protection of Caribbean rum producers.

The name of Rum Angostura 1919 dates back to the historic rescue of a series of barrels of precious dark rum dated 1919 during a fire that took place at the Governmental Rum Consortium of Trinidad in 1932. The blend of rums contained in the charred barrels gave life to one of the labels most famous in the history of Caribbean Rum "1919", which today is still produced by mixing rums matured in ex-bourbon American oak barrels for at least 8 years.
