The Kurtatsch Winery, located in the heart of Alto Adige, stands out for its winemaking approach that is strongly rooted in the territory. The wide difference in altitude of its vineyards, which extend from 220 to 900 meters above sea level, represents a unique feature in the European winemaking panorama. This extraordinary altimetric heterogeneity allows for the cultivation of a vast range of vines, each in its ideal habitat, expressing the peculiarities of the terroir to the fullest. The lower areas, characterized by a warmer and drier climate, are particularly suited to the production of full-bodied and structured red wines, capable of reflecting the minerality of the soil and the influence of the sun. As you climb in altitude, the climate becomes cooler and breezier, creating the optimal conditions for the cultivation of small-grape white vines, which give rise to elegant and aromatic wines, with a marked minerality and crystalline freshness. The management of the winery, entrusted since 2014 to a dynamic team led by President Andreas Kofler, is oriented towards high-quality production, in compliance with the principles of environmental sustainability. The close collaboration with approximately 190 small associated farms, which cultivate a total of 190 hectares of vineyards, allows for careful selection of the grapes, ensuring the maximum expression of the terroir in each wine.

The Penone terroir, with its unique soil and climate characteristics, gives the Pinot Grigio produced in this area a well-defined identity. The silty, sandy and gravelly soils, rich in dolomite, provide the vines with the nutrients necessary to produce high-quality grapes. The eastern exposure and the slope of the vineyards favor excellent ripening of the grapes, ensuring aromatic concentration and good acidity.

Pinot Grigio, a vine of extraordinary versatility, finds in the Penone region an exceptional terroir that enhances its expressive potential. Located at an altitude between 450 and 700 meters above sea level, this area is characterized by a cool and breezy climate, with significant temperature variations between day and night. These microclimatic conditions, combined with the calcareous and permeable nature of the Dolomite soils, give the wines produced in this area a unique elegance and complexity. To fully enhance the intrinsic characteristics of this terroir, it is essential to adopt rigorous and environmentally friendly viticultural practices. The reduction of yields per vine, obtained through targeted pruning and careful selection of grapes during the harvest, is an essential element for obtaining high-quality wines. The vinification of Pinot Grigio Penon involves an alcoholic fermentation carried out partly in large oak barrels and partly in French oak barriques. This double fermentation allows for a balanced wine, with well-integrated fruity and spicy notes. Subsequently, the wine ages on the fine lees for a period of ten months, during which it acquires aromatic complexity and a more solid structure.

Pinot Grigio Penon presents itself to the eye with a bright straw yellow color, with greenish reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is broad and complex, with notes of yellow-fleshed fruit (peach, pear), floral scents (hawthorn, acacia) and pleasant mineral nuances. In the mouth, the wine is enveloping and persistent, with a lively acidity that balances its structure. The finish is long and persistent, with returns of fruit and mineral notes.

Pinot Grigio Penon, thanks to its balanced structure and versatility, lends itself to numerous pairings, from Mediterranean to international cuisine. Its minerality and freshness make it an ideal companion for fish and shellfish dishes, but it also pairs very well with white meats and soft cheeses
