The Gewürztraminer grown on the clayey-calcareous soil of the Lafòa farm, hence the name of this extraordinary Colterenzio series, expresses its best giving life to a wine with a straw yellow color and an intense bouquet rich in yellow rose, notes of cinnamon, walnut nutmeg and cloves. On the palate it's full-bodied, spicy and with an intriguing acidity.
With sulphites.
The recent history of the Colterenzio Winery is made up of rebels and pioneers of winemakers who in 1960, initially 26, started their own agricultural cooperative to market the wine independently. So it was that in the small village of Schreckbichl (in Italian Colterenzio) in South Tyrol, the winery of the same name was born with the then ambitious and pioneering goal of producing quality wine. In 1979 the enlightened viticulturist Luis Raifer took over in the role of director who, recognizing the qualities of the land, the climate, the terroir and the local wine competence, recognized his potential in producing wines of excellence, bringing South Tyrol to levels until then unexpected. With this clear and well-defined vision, he began to give life to his project on his farm "Lafòa" on a charming sun-kissed hill, where he replaced the Schiava vines with the Cabernet Sauvignon and later Sauvignon Blanc varieties. But he did not limit himself to this, but rather introduced a new method of viticulture which favored the low yield compared to the high quality of the grapes destined for great wines. This methodology prevailed within the entire cooperative, experimenting with new varieties but preserving the method, particularly accurate in the vineyard and in the cellar. After 40 years from that turning point, from 26 founding winemakers members today they have become 300, who with their families, who for passion and for work, contribute every year, autumn after autumn to the success of the great Colterenzio wines.
Gewürztraminer Lafòa finds its ideal soil in Colterenzio on limestone and clay soils at 450-500 meters above sea level, exposed in an optimal way. The hand-picked grapes are cold macerated, undergo a soft pressing and ferment at a controlled temperature of 18 ° C in steel. The aging on the lees lasts about 12 months and after that still 6 months in bottle. A wine with great aromatic breadth, which does not disdain 6/8 years aging in the cellar.
