Chardonnay Caliz

The Kurtatsch vineyards, which are located between 220 and 900 meters in altitude, are unique in South Tyrol. The majority are located on steep slopes – whether at Brenntal, one of South Tyrol’s hottest sites, or in the district of Graun, at 900 meters. The soil composition of the municipal territory is exceptionally complex. The different grape varieties find optimal growing conditions through the varying exposures of the terrain. Every wine is characterized by its terroir – a term that incorporates all of the climatic, geological and geographical characteristics. Land by land. Wine by wine. In their vineyards there is always a link between cultivator and vines, which is strengthened thanks to the small structure of the Cellar. In the cellar it is intended to produce wines that faithfully reflect the different terrain and the various vineyard positions. The assumption for this is a careful and precise refinement of the individual wine areas. Knowledge and experience derived from centuries of viticulture in Kurtatsch, combined with modern technologies, are just as important as the commitment and passion of the enologist and his collaborators in the cellar. Whether it is a velvety and intense Merlot of the warm flat of Brenntal or of a fresh and crunchy Müller Thurgau coming from the heights of Corona. The wines know about Cortaccia. Differently and always unmistakable depending on the area.

Chardonnay grapes are grown on steep vineyards beneath the Mendel Massif, at altitudes between 220 and 650 meters. The exposure of the vineyards is eastern or southeastern. During the ripening phase of the grapes, nocturnal katabatic winds ensure a marked difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. The limestone soil here is streaked with clay.

Caliz Kurtatsch is a Chardonnay produced on gravelly soils with a high percentage of limestone-dolomite, with a low yield of around 65 hl per hectare and matures on the fine lees for a long time.

The Caliz Kurtatsch has a straw yellow color with bright reflections and a fruity nose with hints of ripe pineapple, banana and cedar peel and then spices with a long and savory finish on the palate.
