Masseto is a difficult wine to define because it goes beyond the concepts of quality, excellence and refinement. Masseto Ornellaia is the result of a magical encounter between the values ​​of a unique reality founded on human work and the strength of the earth.

The soul of this red Toscana IGT is in its vineyard, with the same name, where the Merlot grapes are the wonderful fruit of the precise combination of climate and soil and of the continuous search for perfection between the elements that characterize the vineyard, such as the soil and the arrangement of the rows. For Masseto, nothing is left to chance. The harvest also requires extreme attention because every year tailor-made choices are made on every single plot of the vineyard: it is a continuous, daily process, which ends with the harvest.

In the cellar the grapes become poetry. Not all wines will be a Masseto, those disappointing in tasting or inconsistent will be discarded: the personality of the Masseto is unique and in the Ornellaia estate the attention is obsessive so that each vintage respects it.

Masseto 2018 is certainly the son of its vintage, which managed to enclose all the maturity and concentration of a particularly sunny and dry season.
The color is almost black, the nose reveals a rich and mature expression of black fruits, with spicy and licorice notes. On the palate, the wine manages to combine a great intensity and ripeness of the fruits with a remarkable sense of balance and freshness. The tannins create a dense and velvety structure, with a persistent fruity finish and vibrant acidity that give a touch of freshness. Despite being the result of one of the hottest vintages, 2017 can be considered a typical Masseto, with its unmistakable combination of richness and elegance.
