Braida, a name and a story, a revolution in the world of Barbera, bringing a vine considered by many not very noble into the Olympus of great vines. The history of Braida began way back in 1961 when Giacomo Bologna created "La Monella" with the first harvest, a sparkling Barbera which in 1969 was awarded the gold medal at the national competition of Douja d'Or wines in Asti and which gave the opportunity to make the product known and have the opportunity to exhibit "ad honorem" in other national competitions. But it was in 1982 that Giacomo Bologna, thanks to the intuitions and tests carried out on the vine both in the vineyard and in the cellar, created a unique product of its kind which until then was unthinkable: Bricco dell'Uccellone, a barbera with great fruit which ripens with use of barrique, never used for the vinification of Barbera. In that same period, other great wines of the cellar were born such as Bricco della Bigotta and Ai Suma. Over time, new vineyards and new projects are born with the aim of safeguarding the native vines by enhancing them and creating typical but highly refined wines. Now the winery is managed by Giacomo's children, Raffaella and Giuseppe who carry the company philosophy that has characterized Braida in all these years.

The denomination for this wine from Cantina Braida is Monferrato Rosso DOC. The blend is composed of 60% Barbera grapes, to which 20% Pinot Noir grapes are added, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as 10% Merlot. The vineyards used come from different areas all included in the DOC, mainly grown between Castelnuovo Calcea and Rocchetta Tanaro. Fermentation requires the grapes to be vinified separately with fermentation in steel and maloptical in wood. The maturation that follows the refinement of the wines, partly in wooden vats and partly in oak barrels for 12 months. The assembly is followed by a 4-month period in the bottle. The Bacialè, in Piedmontese dialect, is the spousal, the one who arranges marriages. In fact, this wine is born from a perfect marriage between Barbera and other varieties, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Vinified in steel, it is red which is left to mature partly in wooden vats and partly in oak barrels for 12 months. The Monferrato Rosso DOC “Il Bacialè” by Braida di Giacomo Bologna is a wine of solid substance, always harmonious and balanced, perfect for accompanying a nice dinner with friends.
