The history of the Sergio Mottura winery is rooted in its enlightened founder and in the strong winemaking tradition of the hills of Civitella d'Agliano in the province of Viterbo, on the border with the Umbrian plain bathed by the Tiber. There are historical traces of the strong wine vocation of these places since the thirteenth century, and even today the landscape retains those wild and uncontaminated characteristics that have characterized it over the centuries. Here in 1933 the Mottura family, originally from Piedmont, bought the estate, which still retains today, of 130 hectares in order to preserve its great natural heritage. The undisputed protagonist of this great family history is certainly Sergio Mottura, who at a very young age in the 1960s led the life of the estate from the medieval system of sharecropping to direct management following the agrarian reform, moving there and starting a work of enhancement and remarkable innovation. The passionate study conducted on native vines, in particular on Grechetto, respect for traditions and the introduction of sustainable farming techniques, make it a prominent element of not only Italian enology, awarded by Gambero Rosso with the title of Winemaker of the year 2013.

Sergio Mottura took over the management of the estate at a very young age, moving there permanently around the sixties during the revolutionary transition from the sharecropping system to that of direct management. From here began the great path of Sergio who with great commitment, sacrifice and passion for the land, begins to produce wines of the highest quality to satisfy the palates of the most passionate.
