Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of a man, Joseph Krug, to offer every year the best Champagne ever, regardless of climatic variations and it is the same for the Cuvée 171 which comes from a complicated vintage like 2015 but the mastery of the chef de cave have made this Cuvée unique and incomparable.

Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, to offer every year the best Champagne ever, regardless of climatic variations. Since 1843, the Maison Krug has honored this mission with each new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the highest expression of Champagne. The Maison Krug was founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a nonconformist visionary animated by an ambitious awareness without half measures. Joseph Krug understood that pleasure represents the very essence of Champagne. His dream was to be able to offer the best Champagne in the world, year after year, regardless of the weather. The special attention paid to the uniqueness of each vineyard, respect for the peculiarities of each plot and its wine and the creation of a vast library of reserve wines from various vintages have allowed Joseph Krug to realize his dream. With a decidedly original approach to Champagne production, he decided to transcend the notion of vintage to create the most generous expression of Champagne every year. He thus founded a Maison in which all Champagnes have the same level of distinction. Six generations of the Krug family have perpetuated this dream, enriching the founder's vision and savoir-faire.
Krug Grande Cuvée is recreated every year, going beyond the concept of vintage, always starting with a blend of over 120 wines from over 10 different vintages. The richness of the scents and aromas obtained from this skilful blend would be impossible to express with the wines of a single vintage. Krug Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition was made starting with the 2011 harvest. This atypical vintage was divided into two parts: a period of high temperatures that lasted until early May,
which led to flowering three weeks early, followed by a period characterized by a cold, humid and not very sunny climate. It was feared that the grapes might be too ripe, but a three-day heat wave interrupted ripening, also bringing some rains that cooled the vineyards. Due to these unusual climatic conditions, the harvest of the vintage was the second earliest since 1822. In the end, the grapes were in excellent condition, producing wines with a surprising structure and extraordinary aromas. If the Chardonnays did not reveal their usual freshness, the vintage gave birth to pleasantly balanced Pinot Noir, especially those from the Mareuil sur Aÿ plots. To complete the wines of this vintage, the Maison made use of its wide range of reserve wines, making a careful selection among them that made up 42% of the final assembly. Various Meunier from different vintages brought freshness, while some Chardonnays and other wines produced from the vintages of the 90s in the plots of the Montagne de Reims conferred the breadth and roundness that cannot be renounced for every edition of Krug Grande Cuvée. Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, to be able to offer the best Champagne in the world, year after year, regardless of the weather. Each year, the Maison Krug pays homage to his dream with a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the greatest expression of Champagne excellence.
It has a golden color with fine and lively bubbles, an authentic promise of pleasure. On the nose, aromas of freshly blossomed flowers, ripe and dried fruit, marzipan, gingerbread and citrus. On the palate notes of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, fruit jelly, citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.
