The Essentia Mediterranea initiative even began in the Middle Ages, in Altomonte, a small village in the heart of Magna Graecia, where Princess Sinchelgaita, an expert herbalist and wife of Roberto il Guiscardo, favored the settlement of some monastic orders from Sicily and from the east due to the barbarian invasions. Over the centuries, the traditional production of medicinal elixirs gave way to an industry, the Giacobini Reale liqueur factory, which became the largest and most awarded in the Bourbon kingdom.

The Essentia Mediterranea project was born in 1938 after the closure of the Giacobini company. Just in this year, Carlo Moliterno realized his dream by starting his company of liqueurs and carbonated drinks based only on local products.
